Happy New Year!

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 16:20:29 GMT

Starting off with patchy areas of fog and smoke infused from the fireworks shows last night. Visibility has been poor especially around inland locations.A chilly high pressure area remains in charge providing clear skies, light winds and helping temperatures go down into the 40’s and 50’s.Today will feature bright sunshine like Sunday. However, mid to high level clouds are set to increase on Tuesday and Wednesday due to nearby fronts. They will be limited with moisture, so only an isolated shower possible with the second front on Thursday. Another one crosses through Sunday (maybe wetter?).As far as temperatures are concerned, there will be some ups and downs, but not as significant as the cold air we are currently experiencing.Have a wonderful New Year South Florida! A new year brings new opportunity, and we’re ready to turn the page from 2023 for a big rest of the season for the crystal ball.Last week was another good rebound from the opening week’s meltdown, but there’s always room to improve whenever there is a loss. It didn’t exactly start pretty, either, with three early losses on the boys’ side, but a 6-0-1 week on the girls side made up for it.Just as another friendly reminder, there are no repeat picks for one team in a single week. The Hopkinton, Arlington, Catholic Memorial, Reading and Xaverian boys, as well as the Duxbury and Hingham girls, are a just a few teams with multiple tough challenges this week.Let’s kick off 2024 on the right foot:  LAST WEEK’S RECORD: 11-3-1OVERALL RECORD: 25-16-1**WINNERS in CAPS BOYSMondayREADING vs St. John’s Prep, 4 p.m. – AJ Farese’s strong Pete Frates Winter Classic showing leads into a quality goalie battle against Chris Hanifan. Will King Charles make it right with Indigenous communities in Canada in 2024?

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 16:20:29 GMT

This year saw the coronation of a new King. As our new head of state, King Charles has an opportunity to begin righting some of the wrongs committed to Indigenous communities in Canada. But as we enter 2024, the question still remains: will he?“We must find new ways to come to terms with the darker and more difficult aspects of the past, acknowledging, reconciling and striving to do better,” said the British monarch during a 2022 visit to Canada. He reflected openly about reconciliation, just months before he ascended to the throne, but the words “I’m sorry” were never spoken.“Apologies only go so far. And for me, it’s him physically coming to each community, seeing the harms done, and acknowledging that, you know, he and his family and the monarchy have the means to fix a lot of injustices on our communities,” said Dr. Paulina Johnson, a citizen of Samson Cree Nation in central Alberta, which is Treaty 6 territory. She ha...
